Year of the Rooster: Everything you need to know about The Star Chinese Festival of Racing

Year of the Rooster.

It’s not every day you get a racing event and a Chinese Festival of food and entertainment rolled into one, but that’s just what The Star Chinese Festival Racing event is promising lucky Sydney siders this February.

So what exactly is it?

It’s a racing festival with a Chinese theme. The Star Chinese Festival of Racing is essentially a celebration of Australia and China’s burgeoning racing relationship, and what better way to do it than throw a racing festival in its honour? Taking place on the first two Saturdays of February 2017, the festival will involve group and listed races on the track, and Chinese food and entertainment off it. Expect delicious Chinese cuisine (think dumplings and noodles), K-pop music, lion performances, and a fashion show with Miss Chinese Australia contestants. The event is timed to coincide with Chinese New Year 2017 – year of the rooster. Unfortunately for those born in previous rooster years (1993, 1981, and so on) it’s said to be your unlucky year, so perhaps keep this in mind when having a flutter at the track.
