Moonee Valley was racing central on Friday and Saturday, as Cox Plate Weekend drew thousands of punters to Victoria for epic action – on and off the track.
On Friday evening, despite rain, wind and chilly temperatures, the party ran hot at William Hill Manikato Stakes night. The feature race the Group1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) was a thrilling upset, with favourite Chautauqua falling far behind as Rebel Dane thundered to a decisive win. Among the crowds enjoying the after-dark atmosphere was Cox Plate Carnival ambassador Whitney Berry, wearing floral Thurley with a delicate Viktoria Novak crown.
Next day the temperatures dropped even further, but the excitement continued to heat up, with superstar mare Winx providing all the spectacle she’s loved for as she romped home in the $3 million Group 1 William Hill Cox Plate (2400m).
Celebs enjoying the celebrations trackside included Cox Plate fashion ambassador and Miss World Australia Madeline Cowe wearing pretty blue Thurley, and Rachael Finch, who wrapped her baby bump in a classy black Misha Collection frock paired with a gold Viktoria Novak headpiece.
The Bachelor’s Sam Wood was enjoying a day out with an extremely good-looking boy squad, who enjoyed plenty of attention from females checking out the talent trackside. Kris Smith was equally suave in MJ Bale.
I had such a great day at @thevalleyracecourse for the Cox Plate yesterday. Thank you for asking me to be your Fashion ambassador for the week! It was such an amazing experience and I hope to be back next year! In NSW, at Royal Randwick’s Cox Plate Day Meet, the footie boys were out in force and suited up splendidly; newly signed Brisbane Broncos player Benji Marshall and his wife Zoe were trackside, with Zoe in elegant black and Benji rocking the boys’ shade of the moment, blue. Craig Wing and partner Johanna Chow Chuen made a picture-perfect pair thanks to Johanna’s gorgeous Toni Maticevski dress and a striking lilac floral headpiece handmade by her stylist Marianne Malafosse.
