Spring Racing Carnival 2016 galloped on into another glamorous weekend, with a girl-power fuelled Saturday at Rosehill Gardens in NSW and a fun-packed family day at Caulfield in VIC.

Racing’s most influential women gathered at the Women in Racing Lunch on Ronald McDonald House Westmead Golden Pendant Day at Rosehill. While thrilling action unfolded on the nearby track, with mighty mare Tycoon Tara winning the $400,000 Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m), Spring Carnival ambassador and host Mel McLaughlin welcomed an army of formidable females: Angie Asimus, Ann Sanders,  Kaycie Bradford, Helen Wellings and Jessica Dietrich from 7News Sydney (making  a rainbow of colour with Ann in  flame, Angie in pastel pink, Helen in hot pink and Jessica in deep blue); Sky Racing presenter Caroline  Searcy; ATC vice chair Trish Egan;, Torryburn Stud’s Melissa Copelin; international race caller Victoria Shaw; former jockey turned Sky Racing presenter Priscilla Schmidt, and owner / breeder Debbie Kepitis. (Debbie is of course co-owner of star mare Winx- now that’s a fierce female combo.)

Spring Carnival ambassador and Fox Sport presenter Abbey Gelmi won fashion plaudits for her gorgeous lilac frock with a white straw hat from Nerida Winter, and fashion blogger Winton Avenue wowed in a floral print frock from Review and navy fascinator from David Jones.

There was plenty more headgear eye candy for the lunch guests, with a display of the finalists from the 2016 Millinery Association Design Award- a great chance to pick the next hot buy for your racewear wardrobe.

On the same afternoon, the Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes Day at Caulfield drew a hefty crowd of race lovers who thrilled at the on-track spectacle as Bon Aurum masterfully took out the Group 1 Yulong Park Sir Rupert Clarke (1400m), putting a big grin on young trainer Ciaron Maher’s face. The headline Group1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) was won by Black Heart Bart, who looks set to excite in the upcoming Cox Plate. Retired racing champion Might and Power delighted fans with his special appearance, looking spry and fit despite his 23 years.
