Thousands flocked to a red-hot 2016 Spring Racing Carnival weekend, with Royal Randwick decked out in gorgeous splashes of crimson for Saturday’s Colgate Optic White Stakes Day.
Against the spectacular backdrop themed around the ’splash of red’ dress code, superstar mare Winx cruised to her 11th straight win before a cheering crowd of fans in the day’s flagship race, the 1600m Colgate Optic White Stakes (also known as the George Main Stakes). Winx’s trainer Chris Waller calls her ‘the people’s horse,’ and around 15,000 of those people turned out in style to Sydney’s showpiece eastern suburbs racetrack to soak up the action, show off their trackside style and celebrate another huge Spring Carnival weekend.
Leading the glamour parade were race ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins, pageant star Jessica Song and US-based model Megan Blake Irwin, who jetted into Sydney especially for the races.

All three wore white; Jessica topped off her floaty Manning Cartell dress with a broad-brimmed, red Nerida Winter hat, while Jen paired a gold headband and red lipstick with her figure-hugging frock and Megan offset the simplicity of her spaghetti-strap, lace white dress with a red sinamay headpiece adorned with feathers.
Red lipstick was the must-have accessory for girls; and many gorgeous heads were adorned with fabulous crowns, with two of the prettiest (by Viktoria Novak) seen on Australia’s Next Top Model contenders Daisy Davies and Vitoria Triboni. They enjoyed the beautiful red and white floral displays and white Champagne goblets in the lavish Optic White Marquee with fellow ANTM contender Jordan Simek and The Bachelor’s Olena Khamula.
The boys sported red ties, hatbands, buttonholes and pocket kerchiefs, with Rabbitoh Sam Burgess matching his scarlet tie to wife Phoebe’s red lipstick. Phoebe’s lacy white Thurley dress fitted perfectly over her baby bump.

Best-dressed bloggers included beauty guru Katerina Williams in a white spaghetti strap dress and gold headband, and Melbourne style blogger Megan Moore in Yeojin Bae’s hot red Asher frock with crossover straps, paired with an elegant crown from Lady of Leisure Millinery.
There was entertainment and activity aplenty trackside, with one of the highlights a fairground carousel where race lovers hopped aboard the painted ponies for cute selfies.
In Victoria, 6,000 race lovers turned out to Melbourne Racing Club’s Bendigo Bank East Malvern MRC Foundation Charity Race Day at Caulfield to celebrate in aid of a portfolio of excellent causes. Celebrity faces included 7News Melbourne’s Jacqui Felgate, wearing a gorgeous silver leather headband by Jill and Jack Millinery. Families flocked to the numerous trackside attractions, with the adorable lambs in the petting zoo a firm favourite.

Jameka won the day’s big race, the Bendigo Bank East Malvern MRC Foundation Cup, which gives her an automatic entry to October’s BMW Caulfield Cup. Other equine stars included Apache Cat and Miss Vista, two famous thoroughbreds with similarly striking white face markings.
The 14 benefiting charities won big, too, with the final total raised expected to be close to $100,000.
