There’s nothing quite like this summer Gold Coast racing Carnival when it comes to high-octane glam.
Horses and jockeys pounding down the sand at Surfers Paradise, royals, parties and mega money – welcome to the Magic Millions Carnival.
Every year in January, Queensland’s Gold Coast plays host to this 12-day parade of glamorous, fast-paced action on and off the track, centred on the Jeep Magic Millions Raceday – Australia’s richest raceday. Held at Queensland’s Gold Coast Turf Club, it became the country’s first $10 million raceday in 2016, offering huge prizemoney on a nine-race program including the $2,000,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and $2,000,000 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas. The combined appeal of all that money and action pulled in crowds of 24,000 to the track in 2016.
The build-up to race day is a deluge of parties and events, with spectacles including a show race on the beach on barrier draw day, with thoroughbreds pounding through the surf.
The raceday follows straight on from the Magic Millions Yearling Sales, where future champions are auctioned for eye-popping sums. Only horses bought in previous years of these sales are eligible to run on raceday.
Another unique and groundbreaking feature of the Magic Millions is the Magic Millions Racing Women initiative to promote racehorse ownership amongst females. A bonus of $500,000 is on offer to the first four all-female owned or leased horses in finishing order in the Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic – in in addition to the race prizemoney of $2,000,000. The Queen’s granddaughter and elite equestrienne Zara Phillips is patron of the initiative, and you’ll see her on course on Magic Millions Raceday to present the Bonus to the proud winner.
Theatre, high stakes, girl power, and signature Gold Coast glamour – Magic Millions has all the ingredients for an unforgettable racing experience. Head north in January for your slice of the fun.
