Our glimpse of all the fun to come this weekend at the races
Get set for an epic weekend of spring racing, with fashion lovers painting Royal Randwick ruby red for Colgate Optic White Stakes Day this Saturday.
The vibrant dress code for this high-glam, action-packed day at Sydney’s eastern suburbs racecourse is ‘a splash of red,’ so seek out your most stylish scarlet and prepare to dazzle!
While human celebrities and style kings and queens parade trackside, four-legged glamour girl Winx will be headlining the racing programme; she’s aiming to win the 1600m Colgate Optic White Stakes with top jock Hugh Bowman on board, and if she does, it’ll be the speedy mare’s 11th straight win.
To commemorate the event, buy a Winx pin on the day in aid of NSW Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Trust, and you’ll be in the draw for $1,000 cash.
Myer and Colgate Optic White ambassador Jennifer Hawkins will be sure to be rocking her red in the sumptuous Optic White Marquee, and other stars you’ll most likely spot include Spring Carnival ambassadors Georgia Fowler, Mel McLaughlin and Jess Song. There will be heaps of trackside activations and entertainment areas to boost that party vibe – including the VIP Optic White High Impact Zone.
Make sure you selfie up a storm and post plenty of pics of your coolest crimson threads with the hashtag #SplashOfRed for the chance to win lunch for two this Spring Carnival and a Colgate Optic White prize pack. And look out for the fashion spotters wearing red sahses- they’re on the look out for the day’s best-dressed ‘Splash of Red’, to win $1,000. It’s enough to make you blush!
Red is a hot shade right now, with local labels including Lover, Thurley and Alex Perry all boasting flame-coloured must-haves. We also love Cooper Street’s ‘Set Me Free’ lace dress from The Iconic; the gorgeous lace detailing and high neckline make it perfect for race day.
If red isn’t your best friend, use it in smaller splashes; a scarlet heel, bright bag or a headpiece adorned with red roses (rose headpieces are sizzling right now), or try an even subtler nod with a red lippy or nail polish. Boys can have fun playing with red ties, socks, buttonholes or perhaps even a hat. Flamboyant fellas might even decide to opt for a ruby blazer.
Victoria has its own share of spring fun this Saturday, too, at Caulfield, with the Bendigo Bank East Malvern MRC Foundation Charity Race Day. This two-year-old event supports 20 charities, with all proceeds from general admission tickets, hospitality and sponsorship sales going to the various causes. It’s a fantastic day for family fun, with rides, attractions and activities all over the course, including jumping castles, face painters, animal farm, and much more. The centrepiece Group 3 Naturalism Stakes is a must-see race with a strong field, and the winner is granted entry into the $3 million BMW Caulfield Cup this October.
