The Weekend Ahead

Last Year's EPSOM Day at Royal Randwick

It’s TAB Epsom Day at Royal Randwick this Saturday, and rock n’ roll comes to the races in massive style as rock legend Richie Sambora headlines Sydney’s biggest Spring Racing Carnival day. He’ll take the stage to close a feast of racing and social spectacle, with his right-hand rock chick, Orianthi. She’s a huge deal too, having played lead guitar for Alice Cooper and the late Michael Jackson. She even jammed with Carlos Santana at just 18 years old. Normally you’d find this pair playing stadiums, but who needs one when you have Royal Randwick’s stunning Theatre of the Horse? The state-of-the-art parade area will act as backdrop to what is certain to be a sizzling performance from the Bon Jovi megastar and the Adelaide-born sensation, who are touring Australia together as RSO.

It’ll be a fitting climax to a day starring Australia’s finest thoroughbreds, jockeys and trainers in a dazzling line-up of three Group 1 races, with over $3 million in prize money up for grabs.

With the AFL Grand Final also taking place on Saturday, sports fans will be saved the dilemma of where to go and what to see – Royal Randwick has a Live Site for the big footie game in The Mews by Delicious in the Octagonal Randwick.  Punters will be able to cheer on the Western Bullldogs, Sydney Swans and their horses in the comfort of the racetrack’s luxury facilities.

The Mews by Delicious is the Sydney Spring Carnival’s latest food destination for racegoers to indulge in the finest Australian produce and gourmet delicacies, showcasing providores from the four Delicious Produce awards categories, earth, paddock, sea and dairy.

And if that’s not enough celebration, there’s also the Chandon Pop Up, TAB sports bars and that fabulous, fun-fuelled, trackside slice of Bondi Beach, The Bucket List Beach Club Marquee. This hip hangout showcases chef Tom Walton’s acclaimed surf-inspired dishes.

ATC ambassador and Olympian, Chloe Esposito and Friend of the Australian Turf Club, Tessa James will be leading the fashion pack, and other glam names expected to come and soak up all the fun are Monika Radulovic, Yan Yan Chan, Olivia Noakes, Aisha Jade, Beau Ryan, Erin Molan and Michael Slater. They’ll all be sure to take their raceday look up a notch and kick on after the races at The Star’s Official After Party.

This epic day at the races kickstarts the Labour Day long weekend in the best possible way: the cream of sporting action, a day-into-night party atmosphere, and all the glamour you can handle – plus a bit more!
