Royal Randwick is set to become the home of the world’s richest turf race.
One race. $10 million in prize money. This is The Everest, and just like the mountain it’s named after, it’s set to tower into the clouds well above any other race we currently have on our shores. Run over 1200m under Weight For Age conditions, The Everest will not only become the richest turf race in Australia, but the richest turf race In. The. World.
Sydney’s Royal Randwick will be the home of this beast of a race, which is a joint venture between the Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW. For a crazy $600k a pop, local and international buyers can purchase their spot in the race, which is bound to attract the best of the world’s racing talent (plus a cohort of socialites and celebrities no doubt). The race is designed to increase the Sydney racing scene’s share of international limelight and we think it’s safe to say it will be achieving this aim.
The Everest will be taking place on Saturday 14 October 2017, and the second Saturday of October for every year after that. You might want to add it to your diary.
