It’s one of the hottest tickets at Royal Randwick. If you score an invitation to The Stables, what can you expect?
There are two places called The Stables at Royal Randwick; one is for equine VIPs to chill pre and post race in supreme comfort, and the other is for the two-legged variety to do pretty much the same.
The Stables for humans is one of the most coveted areas at the racecourse. Perched up on Level Four of the spectacular Queen Elizabeth II grandstand, this luxury retreat for ATC members and their lucky guests was designed in 2014 to resemble the world’s most exclusive private clubs.
It spans over 1200 square metres, with panoramas of the Royal Randwick Racecourse and Theatre of the Horse, Sydney skyline and even Sydney Harbour Bridge from its balcony area and giant floor-to-ceiling windows.
Inside, you’ll find a restaurant and bar as well as assorted spaces perfect for private parties; these include The Reading Room, with pool table, giant playing card artwork, chess tabletops and a ‘secret’ revolving bookcase.
Sumptuous leather armchairs, timber clad columns and super-stylish touches from architect firm Woods Bagot (they’re the maestros behind the CBD’s ivy) make this one of the most unique spaces at any racecourse today.
Once inside The Stables, look out for a row of entire horse stalls built from scratch, a white baby grand piano that looks as if it was made for Elton John, and lots of cosy nooks and booths for private huddles. Food matches the swanky surroundings, with a variety of contemporary, casual menus rolling out on race days and cocktails for celebrating wins, friends – or just the fact that you’ve made it here.
