Horses to keep your eye on this Sydney Spring Carnival

Clutching your race book… off to the TAB for a bet… but on who?

If you’re a beginner at the track and a novice when it comes to punting we’ve pulled together a list of five horses to keep your eye on this Sydney Spring Carnival.

Of course, coming in at number one is Sydney’s glamour girl Winx. If you don’t know her, you need to get to know her… fast.

So far, this mighty mare has won 19 consecutive races and is  being compared to some of the greatest racehorses of all time, including Phar Lap and Black Caviar.

To date, Winx has won over $13 million in prizemoney and a whopping 12 Group 1 Races. Winx is hastily closing in on Queen of the Cup, Makybe Diva who has won over $14 million in prizemoney.

Winx’s next race will the Colgate Optic White Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday 16 September.

Witness the world’s greatest horse on turf as she chases her 20th win.

Described as one of the best moments in Royal Randwick’s history, Chautaqua’s third consecutive win in the Darley T.J. Smith Stakes during the autumn has put him hot on our radar as one to watch.

Chautauqua will be chasing the highest peak when he competes in the world’s richest turf race, The Everest, worth an astonishing $10 million at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 14 October. Currently

the favourite for the inaugural race, we’re pretty excited to see what he does!

Another The Everest contender, English is trained by the Queen off the Turf herself, Gai Waterhouse with partner Adrian Bott is a crowd favourite.

With some iconic moments up her sleeve already, including Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes and the infamous loss by a nose to Chautauqua in the Darley T.J. Smith Stakes during the autumn, English will be no doubt be hot on Chautauqua’s’ tail come The Everest.

Egg Tart, only a four-year-old mare is making headlines. This beauty has a 75% win rate having notched up some impressive wins around Australia including Group 1 Schweppes Oaks. Some people are even calling this little egg the next Winx!

Egg Tart’s grand final for the Sydney Spring Carnival is set for TAB Epsom Day at Royal Randwick on Saturday 30 September.

Set to race here at one Royal Randwick’s biggest days during carnival, TAB Epsom Day Egg Tart is currently the favourite.

Menari’s race track career is just getting started. With an appearance in the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the Longines Golden Slipper in the autumn, this colt is back bigger and better this Spring.

Menari will be running in the Group 1 $1million De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 23 September.

From there who knows what Spring spoils await!
