Firstly, what is it?!
The Portsea Polo is the annual highlight on the summer racing polo calendar. That’s right, as the name suggests, it’s a polo event rather than a horse race, and it all takes place at Portsea on the stunning Mornington Peninsula. As you might expect, the high profile of this event means it attracts its share of A-listers and socialites. Previous Polos have seen the likes of Harry Kewell, Luke Hemsworth, Rebecca Juddd, and Anna Heinrich and Tim Robards grace the marquees.
When is it?
14 January 2017
Point Nepean National Park, Portsea, Victoria
How much are tickets?
$85 general admission / $150 Polo Lounge marquee / $350 Portsea Polo marquee. Tickets are available on the website here.
What should I wear?
Held during the height of summer, the event’s dress code is a little more relaxed than you’d normally expect for an event of this calibre. Think shorts and loafers for the gents and above-knee dresses and sandals for the ladies. Hats or fascinators are still encouraged. Essentially the dress code is classy meets casual.
What should I bring?
In addition to the obvious things such as your ticket and ID, cash is essential for the bars, and sunglasses and sun cream are musts. You can BYO picnic rugs, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks if attending general admission.
How do I get there?
Portsea is around an hour and a half to two hour drive from the Melbourne CBD, or you can go by bus for $60 return (tickets can be booked here).
