Royal Randwick is getting a unique music festival and there could be more where it’s coming from.
It’s not often you get a European grade electronic music festival in Australia, let alone Sydney (hats off Melbourne), let alone Royal Randwick racecourse. But that’s just what Paul Strange Events and Division Agency are bringing to the horse racing HQ this month with the Days Like This festival, and it’s going to be epic. On Saturday 11 March 2017, 30 electronic and techno artists (you could say the cream of their field) will descend on to four stages which are being purpose built around the lawns of the iconic venue for the occasion. With the calibre of the acts on the bill, and the distinctly boutique art and food angle the promoter is going for, positive vibes are not only promised but basically guaranteed.
In Sydney we all know we’ve had certain (cough) problems with the government’s approaches to Sydney’s nightlife and culture of late (let’s not say anything more about it than that), so in light of these issues a festival that is focused on appreciating excellent music and art could be just what the city needs.
This cool thing is, this isn’t the Division Agency’s first foray into putting on smaller, higher quality music festivals at Royal Randwick. Last month Hot Since 82 headlined Knee Deep in Sydney at Royal Randwick alongside Jackmaster, and it was a roaring success. After the loss of Future Music Festival a few years ago, it’s good to know that RR’s live music venue alter ego is well and truly intact. Can we expect to see more boutique music events and festivals popping up on Royal Randwick’s beautifully hedged grounds? Let’s hope so.
Days Like This is happening 11 March 2017 at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
