With ANZAC Day looming large, it’s time you sorted out how you’ll be spending it. In our humble opinion the races is a worthy choice for the proceedings! Here’s the details of the major events happening around Australia.
Sydney: ANZAC Day Race Day at Royal Randwick
With free entry and reduced prices on food and beverage for the day, you can’t go past a day at the races for Anzac Day in Sydney. There will be a commemorative service with a bugler playing the last post.
Newcastle: ANZAC Day Races hosted by Cessnock Racecourse
Pay your respects with the memorial ceremony at Cessnock Racecourse, then drink to their memory and watch some quality racing. $10 on the door entry gets you racecourse entry with live music and two-up. Grab a sausage sizzle for lunch or BYO picnic.
Perth: ANZAC Raceday Western Australia Cup at Perth Ascot
Perth know how to put on a party, so much so that they’re putting on their ANZAC race day three days early on Saturday 22 April instead! The good news? This means you get to celebrate ANZAC Day twice! Expect the usual high standard of food, entertainment and fun from Ascot.
Melbourne: ANZAC Day Race Day at Flemington
Join in the ANZAC fun at Flemington with free entry and free first drink for any ADF or RSL personnel! The Mooney Valley Brass Band will be playing the last post at the memorial ceremony and try to spot the jockey in the ANZAC day colours in each race.
Darwin: Darwin RSL ANZAC Day Races at Darwin Turf Club
Darwin are paying their respects with the ceremony of the riderless horse, which hauntingly symbolises the fallen soldier. With Darwin’s strong military history (and presence to this day), it’s no surprise they know how to commemorate their servicemen and women in style. Entry is free on the day and there will be two-up until the last race, drinks specials, live music and air-conditioned marquee for all to enjoy.
