Spice up your racing look with by incorporating these hot trends for autumn 2017.

The elegant dress code at the races doesn’t mean you can’t also incorporate current trends into your trackside look. Be creative and try adding some spice to your races outfit by utilising some of your fave trendy wardrobe pieces or accessories into your getup.

1. Velvet

Velvet is so on trend right now and we are seriously loving how far it’s infiltrated the fashion market. I mean, practically everything comes in velvet these days, even scrunchies (yes thanks, we’ll take three). The fabric just oozes old-fashioned elegance and seems fitting for the traditions of the race track. Add a little romance to your racing look with a velvet shoe or boot, or deck yourself out completely in a velvet dress or jumpsuit. Alternately, layering your look with a velvet jacket is autumn sophistication at it’s best (not to mention trendy as all hell), though just don’t layer velvet over velvet – that’s getting a little weird.

2. Leather

Leather is once again popping up all over Pinterest and our favourite online retailers, in the form of awesome pleated midi skirts or the more classic pencil skirt look. The beauty of leather is, even when it’s not in fashion it’s still ‘in fashion’, if you know what I mean. Leather is a classic autumn racing staple, so rocking a leather skirt or jacket at the track has the dual benefit of being both edgy and satisfying autumn racing dress codes (winning!).

3. Belle or Flute Sleeves

They’re everywhere, absolutely EVERYWHERE. I mean, do other kinds of sleeves even exist anymore? Well even if they don’t, we’re not complaining as we just can’t get enough of belle sleeves. There’s something so graceful about excess fabric draping delicately from one’s wrist. It makes us feel like a member of the aristocracy, or Cersei Lannister from GOT. We’re seeing lots of dresses and tops with these lovely additions and they bode perfectly well for the sophistication of the race club.

4. Fishnets

Add the perfect touch of sexiness to your racing outfit by donning a pair of fishnets or fishnet socks under your heels. Instant wow factor! They just look great, and at just four bucks a pair from Boohoo it’s the cheapest way to trend up your look ever, that we’re aware of anyway.

5. Jumpsuits

With Royal Ascot having just revealed jumpsuits are now allowed in the Royal Enclosure, the jumpsuits (rightful) place at the track is officially secure. Not that they weren’t already permitted at most clubs here down under, but it’s good to see they’ve been given the royal nod. Of course there is still some red tape around the style of the jumpsuits (they need to have a minimum one inch strap and be full length), but we feel these are good guidelines to observe anyway for any racecourse really, especially if you’re attending the Members section. Keep it classy and err on the side of elegance. The last thing you want to do is be unexpectedly barred at the gate for not meeting dress regs, and if you have your eye on the fashion contest then it’s even more critical. A full length jumpsuit just screams sophistication and sexiness anyway! Just add head piece or hat for the perfect (trendy) race day look.
