Gentlemen, when it comes to race wear it’s not just the ladies who are allowed to have all the fun.

Men’s race wear has become an art in its own right, with many superb combinations being seen all over town. With autumn just around the corner, here are three trends to capitalise on that will give your outfit that special something at the track.

1. Check please

The world of men’s racing fashion is seeing some lovely variations of check patterns in suiting. From the more traditional Scottish black watch or tartan looks, to the large pinstripe or softer windowpane pattern, a check suit is a sure-fire way to achieve a dapper look. The classic colour choices for autumn are black, navy and greys, though bringing in brighter shades of blues, beige, purples or emerald will give your look a fresh, modern twist.

2. Be Bold

Whatever you do this autumn, be audacious with your sartorial decisions. Now more than ever men’s racing fashion is a chance to show off your personal style and creativity. Mismatching your jackets with your trousers (or chinos) is an instant means of adding visual interest. This is also an easy way to make use of existing separates in your closet or adapting an old favourite into a fresh new look. Opt for a statement jacket in pink, blue or red, or go for a more classic navy or grey and let your accessories do the talking. By pairing contrasting colours and patterns in your jacket, trousers, shirt, and accessories you will ensure you stand out in a sea of suits.

Socks are no longer essential in the Fashion on the Field guidelines, so if you want to show off your ankles with the cropped chino and loafer look, go for it.

3. Playful Accessories

Gentlemen: accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! This autumn it’s all about details. Brooches, bow-ties, and pocket squares in exciting colours are the order of the day. Think polka dots, checks, and paisleys in peach, maroon, bright blue and lemon. Brooches can be anything from flowers to feathers, and add a unique, stylish touch when matched with the rest of your outfit.  A statement watch, tie pin or cuff links are finishing touches that add instant polish. After all, it’s the details that will get you noticed!
